How to Hide and Survive in The Ditch Hotel - Locker Guide

Linen lockers plus breath control beat every chase. When to hide, when to run and how to stop getting caught.

Hiding is the difference between a finished run and a lost one in The Ditch Hotel. The official loop tells you exactly what to do: sprint away before the door flies open, hide in linen lockers and hold your breath. This guide turns that into a habit you can rely on under pressure.

How Linen Lockers Work

Linen lockers are tall cabinets placed along the hotel hallways. Get inside one and a chasing resident loses you, as long as you do not give yourself away.

  • Enter a locker by interacting with it when close.
  • While inside, hold your breath: keep the breath key held to stay silent.
  • If your breath runs out or you release at the wrong time, nearby residents can notice you.
  • Leave only when it is clear, and leave quietly.

When to Hide (and When Not To)

Hide when:

  • A resident bursts out of a door right next to you and you have no clean sprint lane.
  • Someone is already chasing you and a locker is closer than the stairs.
  • Your stamina is low and a straight race would be lost.

Do not hide when:

  • The stairwell is a short sprint away and the goal is complete. Just leave.
  • You have almost finished the run; a Revive used at 90% progress is painful.
  • A locker is behind the resident. Running past them to reach it usually ends badly.

Breath Control: The Detail That Saves Runs

Holding your breath sounds trivial, but it is the core hiding skill:

  1. Get in the locker early, before the resident is close enough to see the door move.
  2. Start holding your breath as they approach.
  3. Watch your breath meter; release only when the resident has clearly moved away.
  4. If you must release early, do it in short, quiet gaps rather than one long exhale.

Stamina and Positioning

  • Always know the nearest two lockers wherever you stand. Play with a mental map.
  • Sprint toward lockers in a straight line; zigzagging wastes stamina.
  • Corners are your friend: breaking line of sight before you hide makes you much safer.
  • The 2x Closet Hide upgrade from the Gift Shop makes lockers more forgiving and is one of the best survival purchases in the game.

Team Survival Tips

  • In a 4-player elevator group, spread out across doors so one burst does not wipe everyone.
  • If a teammate is chased, do not crowd the same hallway; residents can switch targets and trap you both.
  • Agree on a rally point near the stairs before the run starts.
